March 20 Meeting

Last Wednesday evening, I along with many Hays cousins stood before the Borough of Munhall Council to provide them an update of our progress since hearing of the condemnation of Harden Place some 120 days prior this meeting. The presentation was sincere, factual, informative, genuine and well received. The Borough intends to vote on rescindment of the condemnation order at next month's regular council meeting. If successful, we will hopefully be in a position to close on the mansion. We also announced the committment from U. S. Steel Corporation agreeing to sell us the 17.5 acre hillside down to 8th Avenue sometime in mid-to-late 2014. This is a very exciting turn for us primarily because of the ability to clean and maintain the hillside in order to create an estate setting. The future views of Harden Place from the Rankin Bridge and West Waterfront Drive will be spectacular. Who knows what the future use will become but one option will be a public/private park and historical mansion to serve the greater Munhall/Homestead/Pittsburgh area. Please google The Arboretum in Dallas to envision what could become reality for us down the road. Work on Harden Place continues in earnest, both inside and outside. If you have already become a member of the Foundation, we sincerely appreciate your financial commitment to our cause. We look forward to the day that we have 100% of Hays descendants in our ranks along with the many friends who's prior donations to-date mean the world to us. More to come.....
